“Be the person you needed when you were younger”
Clinical Psychologist registered with the Health Care Professions Council and Association for Clinical Psychologists
Are you struggling with issues related to low mood, anxiety burnout, trauma, grief, toxic stress, illness or major life changes? There comes a time when we need some help from an experienced professional to help manage many of life’s challenges. I’m a qualified Clinical Psychologist based in Horsham, West Sussex and I’d love to help you on your journey toward healing and self-discovery. Since starting in the NHS in 2008, I have provided people in the South East of England with a wide range of psychological services. I have worked with people with neurological conditions, learning disabilities and severe and enduring mental distress. I specialise in supporting with the overlap between physical health and mental health, specifically long covid and FND. I’m here to provide you with the psychological safety to help you understand yourself more deeply and work towards change.
We all need time to feel heard and understood. The first step in the therapy journey is to gather information about what brings you to therapy and what you are struggling with. Following this we develop a shared understanding of what led to the development of your difficulties and work together on a plan for treatment.
We are all different. There is no single approach that helps us all, so I use a range of psychological methods to provide a personalised, bespoke treatment plan for you. We work together every step of the way and implement various methods to help you learn new ways to approach life’s most complex matters. Book an appointment today and see how you can live the life you want to live.
More than 2 million people in the UK have had long covid for more than 12 weeks. It is a debilitating condition resulting in persistent fatigue, cognitive symptoms, anxiety and low mood. These issues can be debilitating but there are treatments that work. In my NHS practice I led the psychology provision for post covid support across Sussex. Contact me to help your recovery from long covid.
Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) is a common, yet misunderstood condition. It is reversible but without appropriate and timely treatment, it can be debilitating.
The mind and the body are intricately connected and recovery from FND needs to be as individualised as the symptoms themselves. I use a variety of psychology methods to help you feel heard and validated.
I bring not only my clinical expertise but also a lived experience perspective as someone who has recovered from FND.
Please note that I only provide psychological rehabilitation for people with a diagnosis of FND.
For some people, they may struggle in a traditional session, sitting across from someone in a small room, or via a screen. I can offer a walk and talk session, where we meet in a mutually convenient place and we can use our time together to be in the fresh air and connect with what you need to recover psychologically.
There is also evidence that moving and particularly walking can help with processing difficult emotions and experiences.
Please get in touch to discuss why you think a walk and talk session might benefit you.
I complete my equine assisted therapy work alongside my colleague, Serena Hemmings who is a CBT Hypnotherapist, former headteacher, expert in horsemanship and founder of The Therapeutic Tutors. We trained together at Athena Herd on the Level 4 Diploma.
We work in a diamond model, consistent with Equisoma with two human and one equine co-facilitator which allows for greater safety and depth of awareness of equine feedback and supporting the person having the session to regulate and process their experience.
Sessions are held at in Tadworth, Surrey.
If you are a qualified health professional and work with people who have FND, I can provide case consultation to support you to improve and deepen your care plan.
As many professionals may not work exclusively with people with FND, having regular supervision may not suit your needs. I have found many professionals who come prepared with a case presentation and specific questions can benefit from ad hoc 15 minute, 30 minute, 45 minute or 60 minute consultation slots.
Fees are charged at £25 per 15 minute slot.
Please note, I do not take clinical responsibility for your cases.
I offer training packages in FND for NHS, third sector and educational providers.
At times I offer webinars and in person training for individual providers.
I also offer topic based webinars and in person workshops for individuals with FND and their families/carers.
To be sent a training brochure, please contact admin@chesworthpsychology.com
My fees are £100 per 50 minute session. This reflects my level of training and expertise. However, I am aware that not everyone who seeks therapy can afford it. Therefore I can offer a limited number of appointments for people living at a lower income level. Please contact me to find out more.
Yes I can accept people who have private medical insurance with Bupa, Axa, Aviva and Vitality.
I am trained in a variety of psychological models to allow a more personalised approach to suit you. I use techniques from CBT, ACT, affect phobia, attachment theory and family therapy and can adapt my techniques to suit any neurodivergent needs.
I have been providing online sessions since the pandemic started and I offer face to face sessions from Central Horsham, at Kingswood Practice, opposite Horsham Library.
Fees are payable by BACS 24 hours before the session is due to start. I ask that you try and give me 24 hours' notice before cancelling. If sessions are cancelled within 24 hours, the full fee is charged.
I am not a crisis support provider, so cannot provide emergency support. If you are in a crisis, please contact your GP, local emergency service provider or crisis line.
